Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15 to October 15, honors the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States. It begins on September 15, coinciding with the independence days of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The month highlights the diverse influences of Hispanic cultures on American society, from arts and science to politics and education, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of these vibrant communities.

Past Events 

Fort Worth Botanic Garden: ¡Celebramos! A Celebration of Latin American Culture & Heritage
  • September 14-October 27
  • Event will have performances, exhibitions, food, shopping, and so much more. 
 Car & Culture Show 
  • September 21, 12-8pm
  • Discover the lowrider culture in Sundance Square where there will also be food and live music. 
Desoto Hispanic Heritage Festival 
  • September 21, 6-9:30pm
  • The City of Desoto will have arts, crafts and music at their Hispanic Heritage Festival. 
Movie: Encanto 
  • September 21, 1:30-3:30pm
  • The Dallas Public Library will be screening the Disney movie Encanto at the Pleasant Grove Black Box Theater.
Hispanic Heritage Celebration
  • October 5, 5pm
  • The Levitt Pavilion in Arlington will have live music with artists such as Jay Pérez, Mariachi Fuzion and Havana NRG. 
Latinidad Festival 2024
  • October 5, 5pm
  • The AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas will host their third annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Collin County Hispanic Heritage Festival 
  • October 12, 2-8pm
  • This will be the 3rd Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival in Collin County filled with food, music and family activities.
Frida Kahlo: Beyond the Myth at the Dallas Museum of Art
  • August 18-November 17,
  • Celebrate the life and legacy of Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico’s most iconic artists, at the Dallas Museum of Art. 
Latino Cultural Center Exhibitions and Performances
  • September 15-October 15
  • The Latino Cultural Center in Dallas is a hub for artistic expression during Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the month, visitors can enjoy exhibitions and performances from talented Hispanic and Latino artists.

The Concilio
 
Since 1981, The Concilio has been dedicated to empowering Latino and diverse families through grassroots outreach and impactful programs. Having reached over 1,000,000 individuals, they focus on education, health, and economic opportunities. Their culturally responsive parent engagement initiatives have supported over 20,000 families across 28 school districts, promoting academic success and well-being. Additionally, The Concilio offers services in financial coaching, crisis intervention, cultural competency training, and vaccine outreach.


 
Dallas-Mexico Casa Guanajuato
 
This non-profit organization has been serving the Dallas-Fort Worth community since September 18, 1994. Since opening its doors, the center has provided educational, sports, cultural, and management programs, representing the Hispanic community to the government of Guanajuato and the Federal Government of Mexico.



The Hispanic 100

The Hispanic 100 originated as the Hispanic 50 in 1996, founded by local Latina leaders Delia Reyes, Bertha Outler, and Patricia Asip to unite Hispanic women leaders in Dallas and enhance Latina participation in employment, procurement, and social issues. Renamed the Hispanic 100 in 2003, the organization has expanded its membership and now fosters a network of dedicated Hispanic women who support each other's success in both the private and public sectors, committed to making a positive impact for future generations of Latinas.

Los Primos Dallas

The concept of Los Primos stems from the founder's experience as a Texicana from Pleasant Grove and over 12 years as an educator in the Dallas Independent School District. Having benefited from mentorship herself, she understands the importance of guidance for young people.

Her Master’s thesis at SMU, "Primos Dallas: Building a Mentoring Program for My Community," reflects her commitment to creating authentic mentor relationships. Through workshops and national conferences, she aims to empower others and foster connections that can significantly impact students' lives.
